No national standard, so schools set their own.
Unlike the swimming rules themselves, house or faction points at a school carnival are entirely up to the school. Most carnivals score the top four or so places in each race, often with the top place worth noticeably more, then add every event's points together for the day. Two real published examples: Whitebridge High School in NSW uses 10/8/6/4 for 1st to 4th, while Merimbula Public School uses 7/4/3/1.
Relays are commonly worth double the normal points, since a relay result reflects four swimmers rather than one, though that is a school's own choice, not a fixed rule. Some carnivals also hand out a flat participation point to every house that enters a swimmer in a race, win or lose, to reward turning up.
Worked example: with the 10/8/6/4 table and a ×2 relay multiplier, if Red wins the medley relay (1st) and Blue takes 2nd, Red scores 10 × 2 = 20 points and Blue scores 8 × 2 = 16 for that single event. Add that to every other event's points and the house with the highest total after the last race is the carnival champion.
This tool only tallies the points you tell it, from the places you enter. It doesn't know or guess who actually won each race, so the swimming itself, and your choice of points table, stay entirely in your hands.
House points questions
Is there a standard house points system for swimming carnivals?
No. There is no national standard: every school sets its own points table. 10/8/6/4 and 7/4/3/1 are two real examples schools publish, included here as presets, but you should use whatever your own school or club has already decided.
Should relays be worth more points?
Many schools double relay points because a relay takes four swimmers to win, not one. It's common practice, not a rule, so the relay multiplier here defaults to ×2 but you can change it to ×1 or any other value your carnival uses.
What are participation points?
Some carnivals award a small flat number of points to every house that fields a swimmer in an event, on top of placing points, to reward turning up and entering. Set it to 0 if your carnival doesn't use them.
How many houses can I add?
Between 2 and 8. Rename them to match your school's actual house or faction names; the points table and leaderboard update automatically.
Does this save my results if I close the tab?
Yes, everything is saved in your browser as you go, so reopening this page brings your houses, points table and events back. Nothing is uploaded or shared; it stays on your device.
